REPLENISH YOUR OYSTER BAR AND FIND YOUR PEARL

The phrase “The World Is Your Oyster” is not only for the young adult, but also for the young at heart.   In this world of, you are what you eat; you are also what you think. Some mature adults have convinced themselves they are too old for anything, except sitting in front of the TV.  Statistics show that older adults that retire and are inactive, seem to have a shorten life span compared to people that are active, and passionate about reinventing themselves, lifestyle or as I like to call it ”Replenishing Your Oyster Bar”.

Ways To Reinvent Your Oyster Bar:

Start your own business, something that you can be passionate about and still bring in an income. If you need financing and have a pension, you may quality for a pension lump sum  funding go to US Pension Funding  for more information.

If you have planned your retirement well, volunteer at Volunteers of America they have a wealth of  information regarding volunteerism.

If you need retraining, go back to school, but make sure its' something your passionate about, Its’ Never Too Late.

Searching for a job in this economy is highly competitive. Let’s face it, there is a large percent of mature adults that have lost their job, have to accept full time and part-time jobs at very low wages or need to supplement their retirement. Once you are considered over the hill, its’ very hard to climb back up and be considered employable. Even though you have a lot of experience to bring to the table, most employers do not want to pay the higher health insurance that your age will cost him or her.

It's been well noted that after retirement, just sitting around is a sure early way to the grave.
Older adults must active to stay well and mentally alert.  My mother who was a surgery nurse use to say, if you don't use it, you surely will loose it.  It's never too late to replenish  Your Oyster Bar, you just might find the pearl that will take you well into your golden years with pride, dignity and money to show for it.

Share your Oyster Story, it just might inspire someone else.

  1. I often think that there is a hidden age discrimination, especially when you are filling out a application online and when it prompts you to put in your years of education completion, if you do not put that year in, it will not allow you to complete the application. That information will usually indicate to the employer how old you are.

  2. I agree do not give up,second careers are started all the time. I got a divorce and had 4 kid to provide for at the time I was working in retail. I know I could not survive on a retail income, so I attended nursing school and became a LVN at 53. It open a whole new world for me and employment where ever I choose to relocate. Believe you can reinvent.
